My name is Michael Wilkinson and for several years I wanted to create something in wood both for my own enjoyment and more importantly for others.
So about four years ago with some woodwork knowledge but lacking an inspiration I attended an evening class. My tutor asked us all what we wanted to do and encouraged us to look in the woodwork library if we needed ideas. Some of us did just that and I discovered a book on how to make wooden toys. In it was a plan to make a wooden truck. I made my own version of that and over the coming weeks I built my first flat backed truck!
As the truck sat proudly on the hearth in the fireplace I started wondering what other bodies I could put on this truck.
Within a couple of weeks I had made a prototype skip wagon, a tipper and the beginnings of an articulated truck - oh and plenty of firewood!
But I only had a small garden shed and to take these ideas further I would need a bigger workspace.
So over six months the shed was extended and virtually rebuilt insulated and electricity installed. From here I have produced about 40 small trucks and 2 large ones.
All this from a desire to be creative!
